Here is a little Wildrose history for you ...
In 1984, five women with very little bar experience staked their claim to 1021 E. Pike St. Filling the need for a safe and fun place for women to hang out, they transformed a dusty greasy sports bar into what we know today as ... The Wildrose.
Uli, Sylvia, Sue, Helen, and Bryher cleaned the place up, painted the bar pink, donned matching pink bow ties, wrapped themselves in matching pink cumberbunds and opened the doors for business on New Year's Eve.
As time went by, the group of five narrowed itself down to Bryer, who, for 10 years, filled the place with music, entertainment, and numerous benefits, creating a solid ambience of community spirit and support.
In 1995 Bryer turned the Wildrose over to Joanne who continued in the same vein, adding her delicious and waist expanding home made desserts to the always changing menu while women lined up to take her sweet little dog Maggie for walks around Capital Hill.
When Joanne felt the need to change the circumstance of her life, she sold the Wildrose to a group of three: Martha, who had been one of the Rose's illustrious bartenders for over three years, Karen and Janice who then sold to Shelly, the long time technical director. That group metamorphosed into the current owners, Martha Manning, and Shelley Brothers.
After 21 years of existence, and 10 owners, after hosting numerous birthdays, funerals, weddings and divorces, the Wildrose continues to be a community gathering place, and welcomes everyone to peruse the extensive menu and view the ever changing art that always adorns the walls. There is still an on going and entertaining collection of shows and special events to choose from, as well as excercising your option to simply relax, hang out and have a drink.
