Lady Sovereign, Last Night Nov. 11th

Lady Sovereign, Jay-Z's favorite Lady MC, last night at Neumos, in Seattle, kicked ass in Her show! I got to sing to Her, shake hands with Her and even got a smile from Her. Which I think was hard to do since she seemed pretty irritated with drunken peeps on her jock.

Anyhow, the show included one Drummer, a DJ, a guitarist and of course Lady Sov.  She also got behind the decks, scratched a bit and banged on the drums a little, which I think was pretty phat! Overall the show rocked and seeing Lady Sov close up at Neumos was extra co! ;0)

Feisty new U.K. MC teams up with the Streets for first-ever trek

ONLINE EXCLUSIVE

After a successful performance to an overflow crowd at this year's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in the California desert, hip-hop newcomer Lady Sovereign will kick off a round of U.S. tour next month, opening for fellow British MC the Streets (a.k.a. Mike Skinner). The trek comes in advance of her much-anticipated debut LP, Public Warning, due stateside in August, and includes stops at major festivals such as Intonation and Lollapalooza.

As for the tour, Sovereign -- complete with signature side-ponytail -- plays down the hype, saying backstage at Coachella, "I'm a special guest there, so nobody really knows I'm there." She looks forward to touring with Skinner, who she worked with on a remix of his song, "Fit But You Know It."

Lady Sovereign's New Single

The Ordinary Boys vs Lady Sovereign
"nine2five", the new single 22nd May, 2006

Lady Sovereign with the help of her good mates The Ordinary Boys are releasing a new single "Nine2Five" on May 22nd. It came about when Sov and the Ordinary Boys swapped songs to see what they could do with each others' music. The results were so good that both Sovereign's 'Girls Will Be Girls' remix which featured on the Ordinary Boys #1 single 'Boys Will Be Boys' and now "Nine2Five" which is the Ordinary Boys' remix of Sovereign's 2005 Top 30 single '9 to 5' have both found their way to the wider public ear. "Nine2Five" sees The Ordinary Boy's Preston singing Sovereign's classic lyrics about her lazy attitude to a new-found workload. click here to watch a clip of the video now.

Sovereign has just returned from 6 weeks in the US finishing her debut album (set for release at end of Summer 2006 - at last!!) and touring, including huge sold-out shows in Miami, SXSW and Coachella. She starts her North American tour with The Streets on June 7th.

Powerful Lady In Rap

Lady Jane DJ feels that Lady Sovereign is a breath of fresh air for Women in Hip Hop. I thank Jay-Z for bringing her into Def Jam. Hip Hop needed a person like Lady Sov. There are many special things about this lady.

Excerpt:"Lady Sovereign: The country's fourth biggest chav
In the US, Lady Sovereign is billed as the next Eminem, and has signed to Jay-Z's record label. Back home in the UK, she's been crowned the country's fourth biggest chav. Johnny Davis joins her on both sides of the Atlantic to hear about her past, present and wildly promising future.

he booing starts before Lady Sovereign reaches the stage. As the minutes drain past, the audience begin banging tables slowly with their fists. " This sucks!" shouts someone. Sovereign's soundman and DJ look helplessly at each other, and get back to fiddling with their wires.

At the South By Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas, an artist's career can hinge on a single performance. The annual A&R bunfight sees some 1,300 acts flood the city, hoping to further their chances by impressing the maximum number of industry bigwigs. Lady Sovereign, the 20-year-old London MC of whom great things are expected, had been due to perform at the Victory Grill, a lively eastside bar, at 7pm. By 8.40pm, problems with the venue's DAT, then MiniDisc, then CD player mean she's still waiting stage right. Eventually, she bounds on. Two verses into the first song, "Random", the sound cuts out. Sovereign, who describes her act as "half MC-ing, half improvised stand-up", is left to wing it. A good time, she reasons, to make fun of the exasperated audience's accents and talk about her experiences in the toilet "after a good curry". Then she sits cross-legged and encourages everyone to boo the venue. Remarkably, this tactic works. Though Sovereign eventually quits while she's behind - the sound hiccuping through four more songs - her super-sized personality is pure endearment. She exits to cheers.

Lady Sovereign Details

Excerpt:"The Ordinary Boys vs Lady Sovereign Single Details

The Ordinary Boys release a new single on the 22nd May. “nine2five” is a collaboration with good friend Lady Sovereign and came about when the two parties swapped songs to see what they could do with each others’ music.

2006 has been one hell of a year for The Ordinary Boys already, starting with a sold out London Astoria NME show and then the sold out March tour, described by NME as “proper insanity”, which ended in a packed Brixton Astoria where Suggs joined the band for a version of “My Girl”.
