Jay Z Announces iTunes-Radio Stations Merger
Author: SoundSlam - New York, NY
Hip hop mogul Shawn "Jay Z" Carter announced yesterday that two U.S. radio stations have linked up with Apple iTunes to fully incorporate the online music store into their respective radio websites.
Los Angeles-based Power 106 (KPWR-FM) and New York City's Hot 97 (WQHT-FM) will be the first American radio stations to complement their sites with the extensive music library. In a statement, Jay Z said, "This is a BIG thing!" before adding a touch of humor by stating, "What I love about it is... 10-15 years ago, they said hip-hop was a fad." The rapper-turned-entrepreneur finished by commenting, "When you get something like this happening... It's an amazing thing!"
Both radio stations, which are owned by Emmis Communications in Indianapolis, will now include not only the listener's favorite songs for download, but will also include each station's countdowns, playlists, and even rare mixes.
